The Next Picasso?

Some friends of ours gave us this incredible art easel that they didn’t want anymore so my oldest son fancied himself something of an artist and decided to give it a try today.

First we started with a virtual tour of the famous Louvre Museum in Paris for inspiration. He decided after much thought that his first project should be an abstract.

“Any goof could do that, Mom.”

So he ripped open one of the canvasses that came with the set, used a paper plate as a palette and got busy. He learned how to mix colors, stroke the brush and all sorts of other stuff that is way over this art-rejects head.

He focused and pondered and painted and finally came up with this…

His first question was, “Where can we hang this? I can tell I’ll be making a lot more!”

Gulp

I’m envisioning way more pictures than I want, hanging all over my house. Just what am I going to do with them all?

Oh, and go check out a really great blog called Teen Lit Review. It reviews books written for the pre-teen/teen audience from a Christian perspective. I have kids who love to read so it’s a great way for me to keep up with what they’re reading and make sure it’s good stuff.

Looks fabulous! Love it. I think you could have a great gallery going!

Good job! My kids love painting too. I am not a huge abstract fan when adults do it, but I love kids' art. I have a few canvases painted by each child in our rec room downstairs.

Great job on the painting! You might want to add a clear coat on top of it after it dries really well-- protects the paint and keeps the colors looking fresh.

As far as hanging, how about by your dining table? And if you have overflow, there is always HIS room! :-)

You could always have him paint canvas fabric with fabric paint and make it into a quilt for grandmas. My boys painted canvas bags for their Nanas a few years back and they were a huge hit. It would take a while for enough pictures to make a quilt or throw blanket though

Good luck, tell him the painting is great.

Here's a hairbrained idea for you at 2:11 a.m. because I can't sleep...
If he really starts to make a bunch of pictures, maybe you could help him set something up on Etsy or Ebay or whatever...

From a Texas Art Teacher and Artist...FABULOUS!! Do more. The more you paint and create, the stronger you will be in all subjects! VERY nice composition and very natural color choices. You have an artist in your family for sure!

Early works bring higher value than current works by famous artists (and other creative folks), hang on to them Mom. Art is a wonderful form of expression, great therapy, and a good skill to be comfortable with as he gets older and needs an outlet, and WOW what a nice set to learn on. How amazing is he to look at works in the Louvre and know that he too can do that, what cool parents you are.

Not being biased or anything, but I think my grandson has great potential. DD

You know, I liked the Etsy/Ebay idea! You just never know, and people like to get stuff like that!

I think, as far as abstracts go, E's is really great. I think he may have a talent in that area.

Hang one at a time up, that way he'll feel paid-attention-to, and then it can hang in his room!

Good job, buddy!

Maybe make a "portfolio" for each of them to store their art in? Thanks for the recommendation of our review blog!

What a great job! You have an artist on your hands.

My suggestion would be to always hang up the newest one and then make them into a scrape book that people could look at. I am thinking something easy like a binder that you could just add too easily.
