I'm So Gratefull For This Dog Because Now I Have More Blog Fodder!

Tucker has fit into our family nicely except for just a few things....

He seems to suffer from a severe case of motion sickness as witnessed by the "rain of slobber during every car ride" as well as the "vomit everything in my stomach all over the car" stuff. But to look at the positive side...I now know that the missing pepperoni scandal from yesterday is solved. Someone has been slipping them to Tucker.

Gabriel (my five year old) entered into the dog thing with a fear of dogs. We knew he'd get over it and every once in a while the braveness outweighs the fear and he'll pet Tucker. Unfortunately Gabe still spends most of his time hopping from couch to table to kitchen counter to stairs just to travel from the family room to his bedroom. He even tries to eat his meals perched on top of the kitchen table rather than in his chair. Now if he could only grow some spiderweb to shoot out of his wrist so he can just swing from the ceiling to travel through the house than I think everything should work out just fine.

And to prove that the dog is one of us I thought I'd share a picture that I took of Tucker and interpret it for you. Because I now speak dog.

"You're going to blog this, aren't you."

I have to admit that I feel even more bonded to this dog knowing that he takes a bad picture every once in a while too.

Cute post!

My dog used to vomit and drool at every car ride... by vet said it was stress about being abandoned. Once your dog realizes you're coming home again, he'll be fine. Also... we don't feed the dog until we have reached our destination. If we know we are going somewhere the poor thing goes hungry for awhile!

Sorry to hear about the introduction of motion sickness ~ your son's fear of the dog.
Love Tucker's photo. He's a dog with an attitude.

Actually Tucker was debating how he was going to score some of those chocolate chip cookie and frosting sandwiches or he was saying that water is a little on the cold side....

Tucker sure is a cute dog, nice coloring, expressive face.

Russell thought he was cute and he was super impressed with Elijah for saving up and taking care of him!

You nailed the caption for that picture!

i wouldn't be convinced that someone was slipping the pepperoni to tucker. dogs are masters at getting into food w/o any help from humans-- esp if said food is spelled m-e-a-t.

Your son might be a bit old for my cure for fear of the dog but you might try it.

My daughter has been overwhelmingly fearful of dogs since about 6 months old. she was licked by a friendly but big dog and was fearful ever since. Fearful is not strong enough of a word. Hysterical, screaming, pulling away from me. It was bad. She did not want to walk past houses with dogs, would be terrified at the park if someone was walking a dog. It was blood-curdling screams from her.

Last summer, at age 3, she also seemed to develop this fear of bugs...ants, bees, flys, anything. So much that she would not go outside.
I got an old hairspray bottle, filled it with water, shook it around and told her it was a spray to keep the bugs away from her and her sister. I would spritz us all every morning and tell her the bugs might come near her but would not bother her. After a day or two of success with this, I asked her if she wanted me to see if the store had a 'puppy spray' we could try. Of course, the answer was yes. Another bottle, some more water and more spritzing. Now she knows puppies might come to her but with the spray on her, they won't bother her. (I woudn't tell her the sprays were total repellants but rather, just the offending critter would not bother her if it came nearby.) My psychologist boss told me that the 'sprays' had the effect of giving her something psychological to 'protect' her from the bugs and dogs.

I tell you, a miracle happened and she is a different girl outside. This year, no need for the sprays but getting over the psychological hurdle last year seems to have been enough. She's even been seen petting cats this summer.

In any event, good luck with your son. He'll grow out of this one way or the other.

We had a dog once that would vomit every time she got in the car, but she would be okay after that, if that helps-lol. I'm very sure your son will get over his fear of the dog soon. I've seen it happen many times. You have a very sweet looking dog, by the way.
