Conversations Around The Breakfast Table

Breakfast is a big deal in our house. I’m an early riser so by the time everyone else gets up, I’m ready to cook a nice warm breakfast. And now that Chris works mainly from his home office, the whole family eats together. Our breakfast table is usually filled with wise lessons from Daddy, thought provoking conversation, sometimes discipline, and many times, laughs.

This morning we had an addition to our table in the form of Emily’s oldest son. One of conversations went like this…..

On the menu were Puffed Oven Pancakes with Blueberry Sauce which our guest had never had before. I loaded up his plate as he hesitantly watched me ladle the blueberry sauce over the top. I don’t think he was real convinced that this was going to be such a great thing, but being the well mannered young man that he is, he was preparing to fake it real good. He watched how everyone else was eating it, and then carefully took his first bite. This is what he said…..

“Wow Gayle, you know that show IronChef on the Food Network? You should totally try out for it! These are great!”

My reply, “Will you marry my daughter so I can keep you forever?”

The next conversation went like this….

We had just watched the Jerry Lewis movie Cinder-Fella the other day with the family and so our 3 year old was calling everyone at the table “Fella” and then laughing his head off. Emily’s son didn’t get it so we were trying to explain who Jerry Lewis was.

“Have you ever heard of Jerry Lewis?”

“Uh, is he a director?”

“No, that’s Jerry Bruckheimer.”

“Is he a talk show host?”

“No, that’s Jerry Springer.”

Emily, you are sorely lacking in his education my dear friend. I’m going right down to the library to get The Nutty Professor. You can thank me later.

I would most certainly okay a N and A marriage.

Then I could keep HER forever. I just love that girl.

I know that N knows Jerry Lewis in relation to Dean Martin. You just needed to jog that part of his crammed brain.

That reminded me of how we used to watch Jerry Lewis as a family when I was growing up. We will have to rent that.

Yup, that boy has a total gift for brown nosing... he's gonna go far in life, I guarantee it!

I pretty much couldn't get past the fact that you LIKE to get up early and make a hot breakfast. And then- puffed blueberry pancakes?! Wow. You are my hero. I want to be one of your sleepover friends. That would be the best breakfast I have all year! I'd love for you to share more of your breakfast recipes. Maybe you'd inspire me to be a super mom, too.

Joys of getting older! Our youth group kids have never heard of Bob Hope or Bing Crosby or so many other people we think everyone should know!

Have a great Memorial Day!

I'm with Cindy. You're a super-mom. I have a hard time dragging my butt out of bed and putting toast in the toaster. :-)
