The Cure For Trouble In Paradise

Sometimes I have an off day at parenting which results in a much louder mommy. Sometimes I have an off day at cooking which results in throwing out the burnt dinner and sometimes the pan. Today was an off day at marriage which resulted in some really stupid conversatons.

Things my husband and I argued about today….

The difference between a goal and an objective and whether there really IS a difference or not!

Whether our son should be corrected when he decides he wants to run up to someone and say, “The Lord is coming, you need to repent.” (I swear we don’t talk like that!)

If it’s a big deal that our 12 year old son insists on being called Kip rather than the name we chose for him at birth.

Whether the words to this 80’s song were “867-530 ni-yee-yine” or “987-530 ni-yee-yine” (I know, this is an extremely important one…it just might result in world peace!)

As you can see, we don’t argue over the truly mundane stuff like politics or the Iraq War or taxes….it’s the monumental things that we spend our time and energy on.

Now I’m going to tuck the kids in, grab my husband and drag him off to the bedroom, cuz that’s usually the best medicine for a day like this.

I can at least help you with one of those: 867-530 ni-ee-one is the real phone number in the song. And Gayle, I really hope that i am siding with you! ;)

Also, I think it is hilarious that your son wants to be called Kip. At least he doesn't want to called Napolean or Uncle Rico, or use Dynamite as his last name!!!

867
Kip is a dog's name. Is there a reason he wants to be called that?

Sometimes I'm just argumentative. It drives my husband nuts and he rarely argues back, which drives me nuts!

My poor husband went to bed without me about an hour ago as I was still working on lesson plans for the morning. We try not to allow that to happen too often, but sometimes it's inevitable.

I totally want to be on your side, but if you didn't know that it is 867-530niyine, I can't help you out. I'm hoping against hope that it was Chris who botched that song.
Hope your dose of medicine helped. ;)

It's 867-5309 for what it's worth! I grew up in the late 70's and 80's, so I should know. I agree about the stupid things we argue about...not sure I want to fix it the way you suggested, however! Thanks for visiting my blog, and for what it's worth, I am going backwards in age. I'll be 42 on my next birthday...then, 41, 40, etc. What a great concept!

I am not sure if you have seen this Oprah or not but there is a lady on Oprah that has changed my marriage. SERIOUSLY!

and on another note: 867-530 ni-ee-yine is the correct number...and I agree with eeeemommy, kip is a dogs name, in fact, isnt'there a show about kip the dog or a book or something?

Our little moment this morning was a friend of ours calling and letting us know I would not be babysitting their little boy this morning because he had been vomiting ALL OVER THE PLACE (his words, not mine) and then calling back and speaking to Jesse and asking him if we could pick up his other son to take him to school...Jesse said yes...gets off the phone and tells me and gets upset with me when I hand him the can of lysol and say good luck. UGH! I didn't want that sort of illness that close to my children...in close quarters...and I already babysit another child who is 4 months old and would have had her with me...UGH! :o) he was slightly angry with me...but I didn't say yes...he did. I'm so mean..guess I should do the Oprah tonight too....

ummmmmm.........

Kip?

He doesn't look like a Kip. Tell him it sounds like dog food. You know, kibble, kip.......

I've learned that, when I feel irritable and argumentative, to just go do something away from my family, and usually this happens on Dave's day off. This way I can be away for the duration of my bad mood and I don't end up dishonoring my husband......the moods don't last that long, especially if I find a great deal at the Goodwill or find a used book I'm really into at Paperbacks Galore.....

Hope your morning looks better......

I think you have a serious problem with Kip. It's um, well, not very manly. MY son has decided upon a much more manly name: Mario. Yup, he's gone from the castles of Scotland (Duncan) to the Mafia.

My 2 middles sons sons are Cole and Shane???? Why do they do that?

Play his game and I say you all decide to change your names and ask him to call you by your "new" names. The song I couldn't help ya, good thing you have all those comments. I can't remember words to songs. And about your son going up to people and being John the Baptist. I say the Lord is sovereign and maybe He told him to say it. Maybe suggest that he say a little prayer before his blurt to be sure. I am looking up to the follow up on this one:)

I'm going to have to say I don't think Kip sounds like a dog's name! I think it sounds cute and boy-next-door-ish. Kinda like Barbie's brother. Just so you know.
