And Now....Back To Our Regularly Scheduled Program

We were driving in the car today and at a stoplight I checked my make-up in the mirror and noticed multiple gray hairs rearing their ugly heads. I mumbled to myself, “Time to color my gray’s again.”

Malachi said, “Why do you color those mom, Grandma-fornia is all gray?”

“But she’s an old woman,” I said.

“But so are you, mom.”

Indignantly I said, “I am NOT old!” because the thought that my 7 year old compares his 35 year old mother with his 98 year old great-grandmother was too cruel to even ponder.

And just then, the voice of my preschooler rang in with his sweet innocent little reasoning for the whole discussion…

“So…are you new, mom?”

That gave me pause and for the first time I can recall, I was speechless. I couldn’t really say I was new, because one look in the full length mirror in my bedroom would prove the science of gravity. And dang it, if my only other alternative was old, well I sure wasn’t going to fess up to that. But before I could work out some kind of answer the kids had already switched to another topic and I just sat back in relief at yet another brush with reconciling my 20 year old brain with my aging body.

Can I just hear a big Amen for short attention spans? ADD really isn’t such a bad thing, now is it?

I have avoided so many conversations with my kids simply by taking advantage of their tiny attention spans LOL

I was going to leave a comment but I forgot what you wrote about.
ADD is attractive in adults as well.

My 5 year old told me I was old in the car today too! What is up with that? Is it make your mom feel like a geezer day? He then proceeded to say I wasn't quite as old as grandpa. How's that for redemption? Today would have been a good day to eat chocolate together. Must I continue to plead for a visit? ~Karlie

There must be something in between...gently used? young at heart? mostly dead?

Too bad my kids don't have ADD. They don't let things like this drop! Of course what my kids usually say is, "What are those grey things in your hair? You need to pull them out!" or "You need to exercise mom! You're getting fat!" Nice kids I'm raising!

I used to have the kids pull my greys it was kind of a bonding thing. They thought it was fun when there was only a few.

My six year old commented recently to my in-laws..."I don't mean to be rude, but at least your not dead yet." We all sat with our mouths open for a moment before busting up laughing! I guess that was his "nice" way of saying, "You're not TOO old!" Kids do say the darndest...and most honest things!
