Bargain Gift Wrap

I really like to give gifts but the price of wrapping paper can sometimes rival the price of the present. So we’ve come up with a great idea that saves a ton of money and has some meaning to it.

I purchase rolls of brown shipping paper at the dollar store. (It kind of feels like brown paper bag.)

Then I cut off a piece that will fit what I’m going to wrap and set the kids to work at the dining room table, decorating it with their drawings.

We had a birthday party for a two year old this weekend and his theme was transportation. So the kids all drew airplanes and cars and trains all over the paper. Then we wrapped it up and headed out to the party.

Much nicer than using comics--no newsprint on hands or gift. Great idea.

Such a great idea! I need to try that with my three artists.

Love this idea! I'll have to check my local dollar store for some of this brown paper. I think you can purchase a roll of this for pretty cheap at your local newspaper too, but I'm not positive.

I love the idea of having the kids color on it before wrapping!

Thanks for sharing.

We do that too! At first I was worried that it would come off as being cheap, but everyone loves how personal it is, and the kids bask in the glory of attention to their creation.

Butcher paper works really well, too.

Love that your kids get to be involved in the act of giving too!

Great idea! It's especailly good fro Aunties, Uncles and Grandpeople, you know the kind that just might keep that paper forever. ;) Stamps work well for this idea too.

That's a great idea. I like how you involve the kids, also.

Very cute idea. Another good idea for little kids is using the comics section from the newspaper.

The grandparents, aunts and uncles would LOVE getting their gifts in this kind of wrapping paper. I just hadn't figured out how to get plain paper that was big enough for some of the gifts.

That's a great idea. My sister needed some of that paper for a project and ended up using the rest for that exact thing.

Neat idea! Stamps could also be used on it.

Ok....side note....I noticed the Love and Respect book in one of your pics!!! I love, love, love this book! Actually was an aha moment for me that my husband needed respect like I needed love. Anyway, had to comment! I like your WFMW idea too :)

We have an MALA easel with a paper roll from Ikea. As my daughter draws on it, I roll it back up and then just use it when the need arises. I've even used it for her presents. She gets a kick out of seeing it and so do the recipients.
