I have a big empty wall in my very outdated (think brown wood paneling, yuck!) family room. I stare at it several times a day with disgust.
But in what could only be a Divine Inspiration I came up with a solution today and my arm is a little sore from patting myself on the back.
While cleaning out the game drawer and sorting through the monopoly money, broken poker chips, cards with only 36 to the deck and sets of half missing pawns and tokens, I got fed up and decided to just chuck every little piece.
Into the garbage went Dora pawns from the Chutes and Ladders game, torn monopoly dollars, ripped Go Fish cards, half of the cherries from Hi-Ho Cherry-O, scrabble pieces, and my personal favorite; all those metal monopoly hats and cars that hurt when you step on them.
But for some reason I had a hard time letting go of all the game boards. They were in such good shape, probably because everyone played with the pieces instead of the actual gameboards, and an idea went through my head.
Why not hang these on the wall in our homeschool/game/movie/play/ family room?
Great idea, right?
So not being one to resist a Divine Inspiration, (unless it’s inconvenient, costs too much, makes me cry or requires the absence of chocolate) I did it.
And I can’t quite decide if it falls more on the “tacky” side or the “Gayle, you are a gigantic genius" side.
Whaddya think?

Warmly,
Mandi
I like that! It's very creative....I only have 1/2 the cherries in my game want to dig out yours and send them to me ;)

I think it is a great idea. I think I have seen this idea in some magazines.
Susan
I think that's really cute! What a great idea!!
Definitely falls in the 'oh so creative' category. I love this idea. We are a big gaming family around here so my crew would love to see game boards up on the walls as decoration. Fun. :)

LOVE IT! I planned to do the same thing, even got some vintage game boards on ebay. Did I ever hang them? NO. So you deserve those pats on the back for getting them actually on the wall! :) Looks fun.
THat's a really cute idea. Thanks for the tip.
I love it. Colorful and perfectly appropriate for the room you play games in. I also like how you arranged them.
What a terrific idea!
I like it!
I think it's great. If you do decied that you want to change it, it's not like you spent a whole lot of money. It give your room a definition. And It's much better than "Dogs playing poker" that Hubby threatened to put up in our house.
I vote for genius. It is a very clever idea and I know you said you don't like the paneling, but look how well they stand out against the dark color. Nice!
Monica
That looks great!! Thanks for sharing.
I think it looks great! I'm definitely with you that it beats a plain panelled wall. Nice arrangement too.
Totally creative!!! You could go for a few more too on there......just watch, you'll be the new MAH-tha Stewart, only you aren't "seasoned" by jail, and I'd MUCH rather "follow" ya'z than her anyway!!!! HA HA!
I think it's pretty unanimous that it's a winning idea......now when are you going to start putting that book that you're going to write together??? :~0
Thanks for a glimpse into your home and heart!

Gayle, I love it! I also think it might be fun to continue to look for these at yard sales and do the WHOLE wall! It would be darling! :)
Great idea!
Linda
I think it is a great idea!! Not tacky at all!
That is a great idea! I will have to remember that when I to decorate the kids' rooms. :)
Looks really cute! I wish we had a fun room to put it in!
I LIKE it! You're a genius!!! I will have to snag this idea one of these days for our library area!!
((Huggers))
You, my dear girl, are a creative genius! And thrify to boot! My dear husband is always telling me I do more with less...or was it less with more? he he he
Love that! Great idea. It looks good there too.
I think it looks awesome - I might have to steal this idea for the basement.
This is a cute idea! The boards look great hanging above the computer!
Excellent Tip! Thanks so much!
I love it! I'll have to dig out our old games and repurpose them for our gameroom! Thanks for sharing!
C'mon by Wani's World and check out my WFMW!
Very Cute! I wonder if there is a way to hang them and still be able to use them? We have a ton of games and since the boxes all got ripped or smashed I put all the pieces in baggies, threw them all in a rubbermaid container, and stacked the boards on top of that.
That is really cool
you are one cool mom!
Great "recycling" - and I'm NOT talking about the boogers from earlier!! Your wall looks great and adds a dimension of playful FUN!!
Well isn't that neat. I like that idea, especially for a game room. Not that we have one. Our house is too small for a game room, but if we had a game room, I'd do something like that.
My WFMW post is up as well.
I like it!!
You are such a trendy girl!
What about painting that paneling?
Just wondering!
Leanne
That's a great idea and it looks very good.
I vote for Gayle you are a gigantic genius!!
Cute!
Oh and send me the cherries, not Laura.
I think it is a great idea.
I have been planning on doing the same thing in one of the girls' rooms. I want to make the room a fun, young child games room.
Great WFMW!
You're a gigantic genius! I think it's great for such a room. I'll have to write that down on the inside of the box lid so I can remember it when I go to toss the all-that's-left games.
Thanks for the great tip!
I like it! I think it's a really cute idea for a game room or even a kids room.
I think it definitely falls into the "genius" category! It look great! I wish we had a room where something like that would work...
