Ah, The Rewards Of Parenting

Parenting has many rewards.

Most of which I never see, but I hear they are out there somewhere.

For my mom, those rewards didn’t come until after I became a parent myself. That was when I finally understood all that she had done to ensure that I wouldn’t turn out to be a permanent resident of the Walla Walla State Penitentiary.

Thanks Mom!

Today I had a few moments that truly touched my heart and made me feel all warm and fuzzy in my somewhat twisted way.

The first was when I changed my four-year-olds poopy pull-up today (Yes, the kid STILL won’t sit on the toilet to do his thing. We’ll probably just graduate to Depends in a few years.) I stuffed it into the garbage can, came back to wash my hands and he walked past me and hollered, “Thanks for changing my poop, Mom.”

Such appreciation! I hope he’s not still saying that at 16.

And the next twisted moment of pure glee was when my 6 year old son Malachi walked up to me with tears in his eyes, saying that his younger brother had hit him. Now that’s not the funny party, though. The funny part was when he told me that he used my special water dropper to put water in his eyes to make him LOOK like he was crying. (He obviously has my sense of humor.) When I went upstairs later I found the bulb syringe sitting on the counter….otherwise known as the BABY BOOGER SUCKER.

Ha! I will always have the last laugh!

Ah. I've had many of those kinds of days. Probably the only appreciation I'll be getting.

LOL!!! There are so many times I get the last laugh and they have no clue why.

That is one clever boy! I used to put lipstick on a tissue to "prove" that my brother made me bleed. But a snot sucker? So beneath me.

That is hilarious...I am sitting here giggling to myself ;) Tonight, my special treat was listening to my 3 year old boy praying...thanking God for everything from the waterslide to his brother to his daddy...so precious!

Oh dear! That's too funny. Glad you can see the humor in the day (and not run away screaming).

I love blogging - just think these precious moments are captured for all cyber eternity. :)

I am absolutely dying of laughter at your 6yo. Oh, you are going to have SO much fun with him!!! LOL

I am sorry to say that I am so glad to hear that your 4 yo still won't go on the toilet. It makes me feel so much better that my almost 4 yo (in December) still refuses to go. Jer and I used to joke about toddler poop...now it's preschooler poop...ugh.

I remember once when my sister ran to tattle on me for hitting her, I sat upstairs scratching myself so that I could go downstairs to tell my mom that she had scratched me first. Not one of my shining moments. With a mom like that, I'm surprised I don't have MORE trouble with my own kids!

Hmmmm.

Not sure I want to have a playdate with ya'z now!!!!

See, I don't have a sense of humor. Apparently.

Okay.

Now that we've established that......

You're funny!

I'd watch that Malachi, he's a genius-in-the-making! Seriously! I'da never thought of putting water in my eyes to make my mom think I was crying!
