Those Aren't Blond, Honey!

I had a quick appointment today and I took Malachi (7) and Gabe (4). The lady I spoke with knew both my husband and I so when she saw the boys, the first questions she asked was, “Wow, where in the world did they get that blond hair?” It’s a question we get asked often because Chris has almost black hair, mine is a dark brown, and our other two kids are also dark brown.

I gave my standard reply, “I don’t know where they get it because neither of us have ANY blond hair.”

And sweet, sweet Malachi…precocious, outspoken Malachi…

HONEST. RASCAL. MALACHI. (said through clenched teeth)

popped in with this little tidbit…

“Well Mom, sometimes you grow blond hairs.”

The lady and I just looked at each other in shock as we both realized that he was talking about my GREY hairs. In public. To a near stranger.

A word of advice: when you have kids, kiss all your secrets goodbye.

I was worried about where that story was going too! Yes, the secrets our darlings blurt out to complete strangers with great confidence and in such loud voices is truly humbling!

You certainly don't lack for honesty or candidness around your home, what with Malachi around!

It could have been worse!!!

Your posts about the boys and what they think of to say always make me laugh and groan at the same time!!

Hang in there!!

Yeah, I thought it was going to be worse than that, too. Like the time that my oldest (then age 6) was in a public changing room at the beach with my husband and said in his outdoor voice, "You have hairs right there! Lots of hairs! Hundreds of hairs!" and then began singing at the top of his voice, "Hundreds of hairs, hundreds of hairs, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hairs!"

Yup, Gayle, it coulda been worse.
